Stephen W Vaughn

May 19, 1940 ~ February 20, 2019 (age 78)

Stephen Wensley Vaughn passed away at the age of 79, on the 20th of February, 2019 in Niwot, Colorado. Steve passed away quietly and painlessly in his sleep after a hard fought battle against cancer.

Steve was born and raised in Salem, Ohio to Andrew Chance “Pete” and Marguerite Alfreda “Gretta” Vaughn. He grew up with 2 older sisters, Jeane and Marcie, and an older brother, George.

Steve earned an Associate’s degree  college at the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. After completing his degree in Animal Husbandry, he joined the United States Air Force and served for five years. It was during this time he met and married his first wife, Virginia McDermott while stationed at Wheel US Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya, Africa. Upon returning to the States, Steve and Virginia briefly lived in Montana while he finished his tour of service.

Shortly after returning to the states, Steve worked for IBM in Boulder, Colorado. He moved his family to Loveland and fell in love with the city, the state and the Rocky Mountains immediately upon arrival.  Steve and Ginny had four children, Susan Christine born in 1965, Katherine and Margaret born in 1967 and Joel born in 1969. Steve has 13 grandchildren.

When not working, Steve loved the outdoors and found as many reasons and as many ways to be in nature as he could. Working as a tree farmer, making large acre sections of land healthy and advising and training land owners on how to keep their trees and land in great condition. He was also an avid fisherman and would go with his best friend up to Lake Oahe in Pierre, South Dakota for weeklong trips. When not hiking, cutting wood or fishing, Dad was a member of several bridge clubs in Loveland and would play several days a week.

He was a lover of dogs, specifically northern breed and over the years owned several, most recently, Bandit the wonder Husky.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jean and his brother, George.

Steve has opted to be cremated and his remains will be taken up in to the mountains Southwest of Loveland and spread during a closed ceremony with family in attendance. The memorial service will be presided over by Pastor James Webb and will be held on the 9th of March, 2019 at 1030 in the morning. The service will be held at Mountain View Church at 2500 N Garfield Ave, Loveland, Colorado,  with a reception lunch to follow  immediately following the service.

Steve would like to personally thank the Loveland Bridge Clubs that met at All Saints. He has said on numerous occasions that they became his family and primary source of social interaction over the last 8 years.
