Richard Jay Ankrum
Born to R. Kenneth and Evelyn E. Ankrum on August 4, 1953 in Waseca Minnesota, Richard was the third of three children. Following a major stroke on November 15, he died on November 25, 2019 in Longmont Colorado.
Richard (Rick) graduated from Waseca High School in 1971 and shortly after moved with his parents to Longmont Colorado where he worked in the family construction business (Anchor Engineering) for several years. Later, Rick earned an Airframe and Powerplant license through Colorado Aero Tech in Broomfield Co.
Rick married Karen Webb in 1976 in Longmont and son John was born in 1982. After working for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita Ks., Rick and Karen returned to Longmont where Rick worked for a general aviation company and they built a one-of-a-kind Swedish designed home.
Rick started his 33-year career as a firefighter and engineer for the City of Longmont Fire Department in 1982, retiring in 2015. For many years, Rick continued to engage in supplemental work in construction with his father and Uncle Edward Ankrum.
Rick was active throughout his life; he enjoyed snow skiing, hiking, traveling, and became an avid golfer. Rick loved dogs and dogs seemed to love him. After divorce from Karen, for 25+ years he shared many of these passions and interests with close friend and partner Mary Jeffers of Erie Co.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by son; John (David) of Fort Collins Co., brother Ben (Rosemary) Ankrum of Falcon Colo., sister Vaunette (Wes) Alrick of Stewartville Minnesota as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1–4 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Carroll-Lewellen funeral home in Longmont (503 Terry Street)
Interment will follow in the spring of 2020 at Foothills Gardens of Memory of Longmont.
