Paul Melick - 80 years young
Born April 13, 1939 in Greeley Colorado
Passed away September 3, 2019 in Longmont Colorado
He was diagnosed with bone cancer in September 2018. He had a wonderful year with his family until August 2019 when the cancer returned. He fought the good fight but lost the battle. Paul passed away suddenly and peacefully at home due to natural causes.
Paul was born in Greeley Colorado to a large coal mining family. He was the 5th son of 8 children. Paul spent his life in Northern Colorado, 55 years in Longmont.
Paul was married to Joyce (Jesser) Melick, they had 2 children,
Greggory Paul Melick and Amy Lynn O'Keefe.
They later divorced and Paul never remarried.
He retired from Rocky Flats after 25+ years. He was known, and well respected as a master welder. Paul continued working as long as he could and mentored young welders in his craft.
Paul was a life-long hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors and spending as much time as possible being a part of it.
Paul gave up hunting for dancing later in life. He loved Country Western dancing and went 2-3 times a week. He even had The Grizzly Rose on speed dial!
Paul was always busy, always planning the next road trip with his great grandson Kennen and completing important upgrades to his house of 53 years!
Paul was a friend, brother, dad, grandpa and old papa.
Always available to lend a helping hand, paint your house, clean your gutter, drive you across the state, tend your bees and spin your honey; He was never to busy for his family.
Paul is pre-deceased by 2 brothers Barney Melick and Steven Melick both of Colorado
1 sister, Evelyn Rocarek, California. Sister-in-laws Janet Melick and Phillis Melick, Colorado
Surviving family members include:
Son Greggory Melick (Kim), daughter Amy O'Keefe (Patrick)
Sister Theresa Scheiber (Richard)
Brothers, Earl Melick, George Melick and Byron (Ricky) Melick
Sister- in-law Lillian Melick, brother-in-law Bob Rocarek along with many nieces and nephews.
9 grand children and 16 great grandchildren whom he loved and cherished with a passion.
Please join us for the viewing on Thursday September 12, 4-7 pm at Carroll Lewellen funeral home in Longmont.
A celebration of life will be on Friday September 13 at 11am at Carroll Lewellen funeral home.
Country western attire is appreciated and appropriate.
