Tribute

Andy Terrell of Boulder, Colorado died peacefully of natural causes on December 7, 2019. He was born Leon Andrew Terrell on February 17, 1947 in Cartagena, Colombia of Leon H. and Betty S. Terrell also of Boulder. He grew up in Colombia and Venezuela.

The Terrells moved to Boulder in 1960 and lived in Boulder Heights. Andy graduated from BHS in 1965. He attended Colorado State University and was active in ROTC. In 1969 Andy got engaged to Jo Ellen Husted, joined the US Navy, and got married. He served three different cruises during the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1985, and soon went to work at the National Bureau of Standards/ NIST. Andy retired from there in 2003.

Andy is survived by his wife Jo Ellen; four children, Lane (Malise), Jesse (Ruth), Joel (Terri) and Melody (Sean). There are six grandchildren, Hannah, Andrew and Catherine; Hilton and Stanton; Elizabeth Ruth.

Music was an important part of Andy's life. He learned to play the guitar when he was 12 years old. He loved Simon and Garfunkel especially. His very favorite music for the past twenty years was KGNU's bluegrass show on Saturday mornings. During the last twenty-five years, Andy played guitar and banjo for several churches in worship and small group settings. He and Jo Ellen were most recently members of New Day Covenant Church in Boulder.

Another hobby of Andy's was martial arts, particularly Karate, Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Wing Chun. He was active with Jorge Calderon's classes in North Boulder.

In his retirement, Andy fell in love with writing and recently completed a science fiction trilogy. He was also collecting material for a book entitled, "English is Fun."

Andy and his puns and corny jokes will be missed by us all, but as his grandson Hilton said, "When a person's work on Earth is done, God just takes them home."

Welcome home, Andy!
