Dale StricklandSeptember 4, 1939 ~ June 4, 2017 (age 77)
Dale Wayne Strickland of Frederick, CO passed away on Sunday, June 4. He was 77 years old.
Dale, son of Donald and Dorothy Strickland, was born September 4, 1939 in Inavale, NE. He graduated from high school in Red Cloud, NE at the age of 16 and received a scholarship to attend Milford Trade School. On March 15, 1959 Dale was united in marriage to Janet Kay Zimmerman in Kearney, NE.
The couple moved to Ashland, NE where Dale began his career as a toolmaker apprentice at Western Electric in Omaha. Dale, Janet and sons moved to California to work at North American Aviation assisting in the fabrication of the first Apollo spacecraft. He took a second job and learned about plastic injection molding, which ultimately led to establishing his own injection molding company in Colorado. After losing his company to a fire, Dale spent many years in management positions overseeing plastic injection molding companies. As his career progressed computers were introduced to the industry and Dale became one of the first individuals to utilize CAD to design tooling for injection molding. As an expert in his field, he was approached by the United Nations to lead an effort in teaching Third World Countries the industry. Towards the end of his career he was involved with the tooling design in the disposable medical device industry. Near retirement Dale established Strickland Design. A large portion of plastic products used today can be contributed to Dale. Some of the more notable items are Atari, Sharp microwave, and baby monitors.
Dale enjoyed camping in the mountains with family. He also spent much of his time on his motorcycle alone, with his sons, or with his club. Dale and Janet spent several winters in Apache Junction, AZ with their RV community where Dale was active in his motorcycle club. One of his favorite things to do was to spend time with his grandchildren.
Dale is survived by his wife Janet; four sons, Jim (Cathy) of Holdrege, NE, Jeff (Diane) of Brighton, CO, Lynn (Nida) of Oceanside, CA, and Michael (Corina) of Milliken, CO, along with his grandchildren, Alex, Benjamin, Ashley, Devin, Eli, Jenah, Abigail, and Paige and one great-grandson, Dario; his brother Doug (Betty) of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His parents Donald and Dorothy precede him in death, along with his sister Dorothy.
