Alta Mae Everett, nee Richards, long-time resident of Kankakee, Illinois, passed away at 99 on December 14, 2017 in Longmont, Colorado. Born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, she spent many of her growing up years in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her much beloved husband, Reverend James Edward Everett, her son, Dale and her four siblings. She is survived by her son Gerald Everett of Longmont, her daughter Brenda Everett Holleman of Oklahoma City, her grandchildren Tiffany, Amanda, Gordon, Stephen and great grandchildren Genevieve, Vivienne, and Adelaide.
Mrs. Everett received her Bachelor degree in Mathematics from Olivet Nazarene College. When her children were mostly grown, she obtained her Masters Degree and spent over 20 years as an Algebra teacher in Illinois, in addition to being a pastor’s wife for over 50 years in Ohio and Illinois. She loved reading, traveling, gardening, cooking, music, playing games and watching depressing stories on television. The joy of her life the last few years has been spending time with the great-grand daughters. She taught her daughter and her granddaughters how to make wonderful biscuits and cookies.
A memorial service will be held at Longmont Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00pm. An additional service will be held at Zoar Community Church, Reddick, Illinois in June 2018 with interment there. Memorials may be given to the Byron Carmony Scholarship fund, to benefit the music department at Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Illinois; the Gideons International, or TRU Community Care Hospice of Boulder County.
