Steven Earl Lauppe passed peacefully into God’s arms at his home on September 25, 2017 surrounded by family and loved ones. Steve was born in Meade, Kansas on September 26, 1943 to Walter and Lida Lauppe. In his younger years, Steve grew up on a farm outside of Meade later moving into town. Steve married VaLyta Rushing in May 1963. Steve had three children, Ken, Denise and Michelle. The family later moved to Colorado.
Steve married Diane Hodge in March 1991. With this union came three additional children, Wendy, Robin and Ty. Steve and Diane moved to Hawaii in 1996, a dream that Steve had had for many years. The next seventeen years were full of adventures including many new friends and extended family. After Steve’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, he and Diane returned to Colorado. Steve was always a hardworking man. His accomplishments included tractor/trailer driver, heavy equipment operator, working in construction of various types, business owner, buyer for Home Depot, and landscaping. Steve had a knack for fixing just about anything. Steve spent many years involved with Adams County 4-H including all details of the 4-H Junior Livestock Sale.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Basinger, VaLyta Lauppe, and Betty Minch (mother-in-law). Steve is survived by his wife Diane, Sons Ken Lauppe and Ty Hodge (Susan); Daughters Denise LaRose, Michelle (Bret) Derr, Wendy Derr, and Robin (Pita) Teaupa. He is also survived by grandchildren Shayleen, Michael (Natalie), Cody, Cypren (Dezi-Ry), Seth, Elijah, Jacob, Isaiah, Aiden, Maliana, Parker, Jordan, and Letiane; great grandchildren Jaelyn and Tristan. Survivors also include father-in-law Donald Minch, brother- in-law Gary Minch, sisters Betty (Raymond) Dickey and Barbara (Leland) Andres; brother Lawrence (Joan) Lauppe and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Service, 503 Terry Street, Longmont, Colorado overseeing all arrangements. Viewing to be held Friday, October 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. with funeral service on Saturday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. The family is asking everyone to please wear something purple.
